Assets


Network Access manages the many and varied assets that make up the 9,500km QR network. 

These assets are known as ‘below rail’ infrastructure and are valued at about $AUD3.8 billion. They include the:


  • Signalling and other trackside systems  
  • Telecommunications systems 
  • Overhead electric traction equipment, and 
  • Marshalling yards.

In our role as asset manager, we make sure that the network is:


  • Suited to the task
  • Available as needed
  • Safe to use, and
  • Efficiently maintained.                          

In 2002-03, Network Access spent $AUD243 million developing the QR network. This was part of a significant ongoing capital investment program designed to improve safety, reliability and capacity, and reduce transit times.

Recent highlights…


  • The first SEQIPRail program alliance partnershipwas signed with private sector partners for major rail infrastructure projects for south east Queensland.
