Access

Our core business is to sell access to QR’s track and fixed network assets. Are you a potential ‘access seeker’?
  • Are you a rail operator interested in running a passenger, freight or coal train service using the QR track and associated infrastructure?
  • Do you represent a gas, water or other utilities company wanting to use the rail corridor to extend your pipeline or distribution network?
  • Are you with a telecommunications company that wants to buy capacity on the QR telecommunications backbone network?

If you are interested in accessing the QR network, you can be assured of the quality of the network, and a fair and equitable track access process.

QR’s Access Undertaking sets down clear guidelines for access to, and operation on, the QR rail network.

The success of Network Access depends on the success of our customers. We are focused on developing the network and associated assets, and providing services that help our customers optimise their individual operations.

The access regime in Australia

A key principle behind Australia’s National Competition Policy is to remove the monopolies of essential services such as rail and make the industries more efficient by opening them up to competition. QR established Network Access in response to this.

Recent highlights…

  • The Inaugural Coal Rail Infrastructure Master Plan was developed in consultation with industry.
  • Network Access successfully negotiated the new Access Undertaking with the Queensland competition Authority, the Queensland Resources Council and industry.
